Animal Tracks and Tracking - with expert Alex van den Heever

EcoTraining has partnered with renowned tracking specialist and expert, Alex van den Heever, to provide an in-depth animal tracks and tracking course at our remote wilderness camps. EcoTraining seeks to contribute to the restoration of indigenous knowledge, by involving deeply experienced local Shangaan trackers to co-facilitate the tracker training courses. Our course will give one a comprehensive understanding of the traditional skills of tracking animals, in their natural environment. During the courses, learners will develop a keen awareness for all tracks and signs as well as following and finding animals in the bushveld.

The course outline is simple: the bush is the lecture room; the available tracks and signs, trails, and animals are what we work with. We alter between Track & Sign Interpretation and Following & Trailing sessions. During the unique Hunter Gatherer aspect of our tracking course, our Shangaan trainer will give the learners a view into the ways of the ancient hunter-gather. Techniques long forgotten are introduced to the learners in a practical manner. It is fun. It is hands on. It is life changing.

The standard of this course can only be one of excellence as Alex van den Heever is one of the most highly qualified trackers in South Africa. This sets EcoTraining's courses apart from most courses of this nature.

7 and 14 day course options are available, with the possibility of FGASA accreditation!
