I attended the course held at Karongwe in early August which was taken by Ryan Clark. I just wanted to thank EcoTraining (and especially Ryan) for an amazing and informative course. Ryan was a brilliant guide and we learn a lot from him during the short course we had. Ryan was able to answer all of our questions and focus the course and lessons on the elements we were most interested in, namely tracking and bush knowledge (which was very much appreciated). Both Bruce and Albie are incredible instructors. They have a passion for birds. I loved just going for the afternoon drives to relax and just see what we can find. I can’t believe my time here is over. Time flies when you are having fun. I leant so much from the instructors and also my fellow students. This camp is well organised as people work together to keep it going. I will miss this place dearly and hope now is not the last time I will be here. Thank you for everything. I have fallen in love with the South African bush all over again - I have never been in such a beautiful, ancient and deeply soulful place in South Africa before. Bruce is exceptional; Rhodes is a tribute to your training. I think if there is one attribute that you seem to instil in even the youngest of your students; it is the level of respect and appreciation of the bush. Apart from the exquisite beauty of the area, I was blown away by how amazing everyone was at the camp and how prepared they all were to go the extra mile for us. Just wanted to thank you for all your hard work. I had such a fantastic time birding in the bush at the EcoTraining camp and I was very sad that I had to leave! I know this e-mail is rather late and I do apologize for that, assignments and exams have really kept me on my toes! The EcoTraining team, from you to the instructors to the guides at camp were all very friendly, professional and greatly knowledgeable and it is thanks to all of you for making my time there so special. It will never be forgotten! - Allison Bauer - March 2011, Makuleke

Passing Lala Palm windmill, watching Impala, Baboon Nyala, Blue Wildebeest and Zebra just to see the pale green of the Fever Tree Forest and the bright yellow of the Pan Dropseed grass makes me happy! A breeding herd of elephants tops the whole scenery but the numerous birdlife in the forest is stunning as well. Seeing Racket tailed Rollers, Arnot’s Chat and Lemon-breasted Canaries is only possible here but my personal favourite is the Kori Bustard. Thanks to Bruce, Dee, Phil, Ed & Brian for an amazing time. Nina Luft, Makuleke, 2009

I arrived for my second visit to the concession an excited but novice birder. I leave today with new skills, passion and confidence to grow, share and enjoy. An altogether thrilling experience with a fantastically diverse and skilled groups to learn with and incredible game & bird viewing. ‘The birds are our closest kin, as we both walk on two legs, and sing and speak for pleasure’.
