This 28-day EcoTracker: Wildlife Monitoring course is a first-of-its-kind tracking course in South Africa!

Tracking has relevance in the conservation industry’s ecotourism, wildlife protection, and animal monitoring sectors. This wildlife career programme is offered in small groups (maximum of 8 people) to optimize your learning experience. Time on this course is split between up to two of our remote wilderness camps, maximizing exposure to different wildlife, habitats, and biodiversity.

You will learn from instructors dedicated to mastering traditional tracking skills. Tracker students will get a taste of this ancient knowledge.

What to expect from the 28-day EcoTracker: Animal Monitoring Course

Learn from world-renowned trackers

EcoTracker is proud to have Tsundzukani Hlungwane (Certified NQF2 Tracker) as the host instructor for this course. And the world-renowned tracker Renias Mhlongo will make guest appearances for specific modules. Students can practice tracking animals themselves – under the watchful eye of an EcoTracker instructor.

Participate in tracking projects

Phase one’s focus is on developing your tracking knowledge and skills. In phase two, you will learn how to apply wildlife tracking practically by being exposed to predator monitoring and wildlife protection. You will embark on an exciting tracking project where you will learn from specialist instructors. In phase three, you will have the opportunity to be evaluated on a FGASA-endorsed Tracker Academy practical tracking assessment.

The 28-day EcoTracker: Animal Monitoring Course is split between up to two of our EcoTraining Camps in Southern Africa.

Certification & accreditation

EcoTraining, endorsed by FGASA, partners with Tracker Academy for tracking assessments. Tracker Academy issues certificates to those who succeed in final practical assessments. All EcoTraining’s tracking assessments are conducted by Tracker Academy-accredited tracker assessors.

What you can expect to graduate with

FAQ about the 28-day EcoTracker: Animal Monitoring Course

This wildlife career programme is offered in small groups to optimize your learning experience. You can graduate with a Tracker Academy Full Tracker Certificate. This is an excellent course to add to your skills and knowledge on your path to becoming a career Field and Safari Guide.

You need to be fluent in English and you will need a valid drivers license and first aid certificate. Start walking as you will need to be able to walk for at least 5km.
