What to expect from the 6-day Wilderness Trails Skills Course
Practical experiences over theory
This wilderness course focuses on teaching wilderness philosophy, low impact guiding skills, and bushlore. The course does not have formal subjects or lectures but instead provides hands-on experiences led by highly experienced trainers and guides. Participants have the opportunity to choose from a variety of beautiful locations within the Makuleke Concession of the Kruger National Park in Africa.
A range of advanced skills
In this course, you will learn a range of advanced skills, including wilderness appreciation, the Minimal Impact Approach (MIA), situational awareness, setting up eco-friendly camps, water purification, and “leaving no trace” practices. These lessons are designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of how to minimise your impact on the environment and navigate the wilderness with care and respect.

Firstly, you will have the opportunity to stay in camps located in prime wildlife areas and take part in wilderness walks or game drives twice a day. In addition, you will receive training in two game reserves, which will expose you to diverse habitats and species. By participating in this course, you can expect to gain invaluable experience and knowledge in a range of wilderness-related areas.

Entry level requirements
- The learner needs to be able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
- Participants need to be over the age of 16.
- Fit and able to walk up to 12km per day whilst carrying your own backpack with supplies throughout the course.
