I grew up in Belgium but I was made in South Africa! Tayla Bungen pursues her dream of working in conservation
When Tayla was 13 years old, her family left South Africa and immigrated to Belgium. Tayla's passion for nature never faded and now she is back in South Africa to pursue her dream of becoming a Conservationist.
I was born in Durban, a coastal city by the warm Indian ocean and lived in South Africa for 13 years until my family relocated to Belgium. This didn’t change our annual tradition of spending time in the bush. I was studying Environmental Management in Belgium and looked into field guiding courses in South Africa. This is when I found EcoTraining, which was 3 years ago. With Africa in my blood and my overwhelming passion for the African bush, I couldn’t wait to finish my Bachelor’s degree before travelling to South Africa and enrolling in an EcoTraining course.
I decided to attend the 55-day Field Guide Level 1 / NQF2 Course during the summer vacation for all European universities. My hope is that my degree along with my level 1 FGASA qualification from EcoTraining, would give me the strong footing I would need to steer towards the direction of conservation work. For now, and until that time comes, I am expecting to learn a whole lot from EcoTraining about the bush and the ecosystems that exist within it, and build an even stronger connection to nature.
