In order for ecosystems to be balanced and thrive, it’s essential that all living animals are properly protected. Wildlife is a term which relates to wild animals and undomesticated animals, such as insects and birds.

The Racket-tailed Roller has a rather limited distribution in South Africa, primarily being found in the far northeastern tip of Kruger National Park which is dominated by Mopane (Colophospermum mopane) which occurs in dense stands with limited ground cover as its understory. This time of year is by far our favourite. As the bushveld comes alive as do our senses with all the incredible sights, smells and sounds that surround us. EcoTraining’s David Havemann speak to us about what these smells mean and how to interpret them.
South Africa is well known for its birdlife, with close to +/- 850 species recorded in the country, of which around 100 (give or take) are migratory, in other words, they don’t call South Africa their permanent home but rather spend some parts of the year beyond our borders.
The lift in restrictions could not have come at a better time. South Africa is known for its lovely weather and what better time to step foot on South African soil than during the spring months leading to summer. You can look forward to lovely weather as you enjoy the stunning beaches, wildlife and landscape the country has to offer.

As a young girl, I would never have thought that I could ever have loved being out in the wild, seeing the beautiful animals and driving around the scenic nature routes as much as I did. But, luckily for me, I got to grow up with a family that enjoyed going to areas such as the Kruger National Park and this gave my love a chance to grow even more.
These days, guiding and becoming a Professional Safari Guide no longer means, simply getting the tan, driving the big 4 x 4, and heading home during your two weeks off, to tell everyone that you are a “Game Ranger”.
