The Family EcoQuest has been thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity, strengthen family bonds and create unforgettable memories through shared adventures in the African wilderness.
Over seven days, parents and children will explore the bush alongside experienced EcoTraining instructors, discovering wildlife, learning practical bush skills and uncovering the remarkable stories hidden within nature. Through observation, exploration and hands-on experiences, families will gain a deeper understanding of the natural world and the important role we all play in protecting it.
Every game drive, guided walk and interactive activity is designed to encourage exploration, teamwork and a meaningful connection with nature. From tracking wildlife and identifying birds to navigating using nature and gathering around the campfire beneath the stars, every day offers a chance to learn, connect and experience the wilderness together.

What to expect from
the Family EcoQuest
Explore, discover and learn together
Each day of the Family EcoQuest follows a different theme, combining outdoor adventure with interactive learning experiences designed to encourage curiosity, teamwork and discovery.
Families will experience daily game drives and guided bush walks, wildlife tracking, bird identification, bush skills, navigation and orientation, botany and astronomy. Every activity provides an opportunity to experience the African wilderness together while developing a deeper understanding of the natural world.
Family adventures in the African bush
Highlights include interactive family challenges, the Ultimate Botany Quest, the Family Birding Challenge, wildlife tracking and spoor interpretation, bush skills activities, bush picnic breakfasts and astronomy beneath the African night sky.
Evenings around the campfire, complete with stories, laughter and s’mores, provide the perfect way to end each day and reconnect as a family.

The Family EcoQuest is more than just a safari. It is an opportunity for families to disconnect from technology, reconnect with one another and experience the African wilderness together. Through observation, exploration and hands-on experiences, families develop a deeper appreciation for wildlife and the natural world while building curiosity, confidence and practical bush skills.
Each activity is designed to encourage teamwork and discovery, from tracking wildlife and identifying birds to exploring bush skills, navigating using nature and learning about the ecosystems around them. Families will share meaningful experiences, discover new perspectives and create lasting memories together, long after the course has ended.

Entry level requirements
- No previous wildlife knowledge or experience is required.
- The course is suitable for families with children aged 6 years and older.
- Participants should be comfortable taking part in outdoor activities, including game drives and guided bush walks.

the Family EcoQuest
FAQ about the Family EcoQuest
No. No previous wildlife knowledge is required. The Family EcoQuest is designed to engage both adults and children through exploration, discovery and shared experiences.
Child rates apply to children aged 6–15 years sharing with an adult. Participants aged 16 years and over occupy their own tent.
Families will explore topics including ecology, common trees and shrubs, animal tracks and tracking, navigation and bush skills, mammal identification and behaviour, bird identification and behaviour, and astronomy and the African night sky.
Accommodation, game drives, three hearty meals daily, other activities, walks, tea, coffee and cordials, and instruction from highly skilled EcoTraining instructors are included.
The Family EcoQuest is offered at selected EcoTraining camps in South Africa, including Karongwe, Pridelands and Makuleke.
