Position: Head Instructor / Facilitator (Permanent, Full-Time)
Location: EcoTraining Botswana Training Camp – Mashatu Area
EcoTraining (Pty) Ltd is a leading provider of accredited and endorsed training programmes in nature guiding, wildlife conservation, and ecotourism across Africa. Due to increased training demand within the safari industry, EcoTraining has capacity for at least two permanent Head Instructors at our Botswana training operation, with a strong preference for a highly qualified Botswana citizen to ensure long-term consistency, alignment, and programme excellence.
About the Role
We are seeking a strong, experienced and professional Head Instructors to manage and drive the academic, operational, and mentoring components of our Botswana training camp. This role is critical in ensuring that EcoTraining programmes are delivered consistently, to the highest standard, and in line with our curriculum, values, and “EcoTraining way”.
The successful candidate will manage the training camp, facilitate and assess a variety of wildlife and safari guide courses, and mentor both students and junior instructors. All courses are accredited and/or endorsed by the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA), FGASA, and other relevant bodies.
This is a permanent, full-time position with a competitive and negotiable salary, dependent on experience, qualifications, and skill set.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Academics
- Deliver inspirational, immersive, and professional training aligned with EcoTraining curricula
- Plan and facilitate daily activities including lectures, field activities, assessments, and evaluations
- Ensure all academic requirements, tests, assessments, and administrative processes are completed accurately and on time
- Uphold academic integrity and ensure compliance with BQA, FGASA and internal EcoTraining standards
Camp & Operational Management
- Overall management and smooth running of the training camp
- Planning and oversight of maintenance for infrastructure, vehicles, and equipment
- Full responsibility for firearms and ammunition, ensuring safety, compliance, maintenance, and correct record-keeping
- Liaison with Reserve Management regarding concession and operational matters
People Management & Mentorship
- Line management of Camp Coordinators (who manage cooks and cleaners)
- Mentorship and development of students on work-experience or volunteer placement
- Contribution to EcoTraining’s long-term strategy of developing instructors and strengthening the guiding industry
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 10 years professional guiding experience
- Valid Professional Guide License issued by Botswana Wildlife Conservation & National Parks
- Relevant qualification from Botswana Wildlife Training Institute and/or Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA)
- Proven experience working in a high-end safari environment
Technical & Professional Requirements
- Minimum of one or more of the following (or very close to attaining):
- NQF Level 4
- FGASA Level 3
- VPDA
- Advanced Trails Guide
- Current Advanced Rifle Handling
- Minimum 10 years guiding experience in a high-end environment
- Current Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
