Important Update: Changes Coming to Guiding Qualifications

The guiding industry in South Africa is entering a new chapter. The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) has started the process of moving all CATHSSETA Skills Programmes to the new QCTO (Quality Council for Trades and Occupations) framework.

This transition will include the creation of a new full Tourist Guide qualification, which will have a Nature Guide part-qualification at NQF Level 3 or 4 (pending confirmation).

Why focus on NQF4 now

Because of the changes coming next year, current and aspiring guides are strongly encouraged to enrol in EcoTraining’s Online NQF4 Bridging Course. Doing so will enable you to secure your NQF4 designation before the new system is implemented.

We also know that lodges and tourism operators are increasingly looking for guides who can deliver a deeper, more professional guest experience, and NQF4 is becoming the industry benchmark.

Once the QCTO framework is fully in place, there will be more compliance requirements, extra assessment components, and added administrative steps. Completing your NQF4 qualification now will make the transition much smoother and give you an advantage — you will hold a higher qualification level than new entrants under the revised structure.

Our Online NQF4 Bridging Course also offers a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway into the upcoming QCTO qualification. It also serves as a stepping stone to EcoTraining’s Higher Education Ecotourism Field Guide Programme (NQF Level 5).
